CONSULTING AND CRITIQUING PROCESS
For support, manuscript critique, and advice in bringing your writing visions closer to reality, consider working with an experienced published author of 11 traditionally published books, and more than 1,500 magazine articles and short stories.
Rita Robinson is also a former full-time newspaper reporter, and has provided editing and graphics for two book publishing companies, and designed the “Marketing Your Magazine Articles class for Writer’s Digest, where she has worked as an instructor for 15 years.
Rita has run private classes, and has conducted workshops at several community colleges and writer’s conferences, including the Maui Writer’s Retreat. More background can be found on the “a writer’s life” page of this site, and in the “testimonials” of some former students and clients. Pubished books by former students and clients are listed on a click-through to Amazon in the lower right-hand column.
For book manuscripts, if the aim is to send it to traditional publishers with cover letter, book proposal and sample chapters, she suggests reading a copy of Michael Larsen’s “How to Write a Book Proposal” for a head start in the right direction, and to save time and money before working toward publication.
Clients interested in help with books, proposals, synopsis, articles and short stories usually start with a fund of about $250. A running account is kept that is sent after each project, and at the end of the year (or anytime it’s requested) of the hours and fees for client tax purposes. Payment, prior to sending your material can be made through PayPal (I have an account through my email) or check by regular mail. For checks, please indicate “USD” at the end of the written amount.
A critique only with no editing of a full book manuscript runs about $300. A critique and suggestions of a non-fiction book proposal runs about $250. depending on its length. Memoirs/personal stories, however, don’t require a typical proposal, while fiction requires a synopsis.
Please contact me through the site for any questions, and estimates of particular types of the work needed.
